LG 34GK950F USB 3.0 HUB PROBLEMS
Hi everyone,
I have had this fantastic monitor for a few months now. Love it. Today, I connected the back of it with the USB 3.0 supplied cable (A to B), so I can use the monitor as a USB hub. Didn't work. Below is all that I have tried... If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
If this is a defect, I am not returning this monitor. USB hubs are a dime a dozen, so I will not let this monitor go just for that.
- I tried another similar cable I had;
- I tried my mobo USB 3.1 port, as well as my USB 3.0 DAC UP (I have a Gigabyte Aorus mobo). In both cases I can hear Windows' beep that it recognizes a new equipment connected. But then when I connect my USB hard drive to the monitor, the hard drive lights up, but Windows does not recognize it.
- I then tried another external hard drive, this one has its own power supply, and same as above: the light turns on on the HD, but Windows does not see it.
- I then tried both of those hard drives directly on the mobo (both on the USB 3.1 and the USB 3.0 DAC), and in all cases my hard drives do get recognized by Windows.
... so, a pretty thorough diagnostic that leads me to believe that, somehow, my monitor's USB hub is not passing the signal back to the PC. What did I miss?
[EDIT] after the suggestions below, I have also tried:
- installing the official monitor driver from LG's website (I am running Win10 64, latest updates), and also restarting my PC
- connecting something else than an external HD... I have tried a simple USB mouse, and *that* worked. I'm really stumped.
Thanks for any help.
